The True Knight Gaute

The True Knight Gaute stands in the alleys of a residential area, featuring a low-key exterior composed of pebble stone and cement finish. However, the interior design surpasses the classical British gentleman aesthetic typically associated with bespoke and tailor stores. Instead, it embraces a curated blend of modern elements while still exuding elegance and traditional craftsmanship.

The space is designed to create a visual balance through themes of division, contrast, and continuity. The lines of the interior echo each other without conflicting, resulting in a concept store that breaks away from the traditional idea of a suit store.

At the entrance, a strong-colored modern painting sets a minimalist tone and serves as a focal point to welcome customers. The brand spirit showcase area features a semi-finished suit, showcasing bespoke techniques such as sewing and tailoring. This suit, collaged with two different fabrics, tells the story of the space and corresponds to the centerline with great contrast at the back of the showcase area.

One of the unique features of The True Knight Gaute is the transparent showcase at the rear, providing a view of the tailor's studio. Customers can observe the customized pattern making and cutting process from outside, gaining insight into the details of bespoke craftsmanship.

The project, located in Taipei, Taiwan, was completed in November 2017 and spans 121.5 square meters. It is a testament to the innovative thinking and narrative essence that GAUTE, the brand behind the space, wanted to express. The design challenges the traditional style of outfits and ready-to-wear suits, offering a unique and immersive experience for customers.

The True Knight Gaute was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021 in the category of Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design. This award recognizes the space's well-designed, practical, and innovative characteristics that meet professional and industrial requirements, contributing to a better world.
